Curt is a native of the Pacific Northwest and has enjoyed a career in land and water conservation in which he has held leadership positions with The Nature Conservancy, the State of Georgia, The Trust for Public Land, and now the Chelan Douglas Land Trust. His focus is on conserving land and creating great greenspaces in an effective, visionary and financially sound manner. Curt earned his Bachelors of Science in Earth Sciences from the University of Washington and is the proud father of a son (John), and daughter (Rachel).
A native of Louisiana, Buford graduated from the US Naval Academy in 1966 then served in the US Navy for 24 years. His naval career included of command of two ships and several tours as an engineer on nuclear-powered ships. After retirement, he taught mathematics and science at Icicle River Middle School for 10 years. He ia a founding member of Chelan County’s Citizen’s Committee of the Salmon Recovery Funding Board. He is also a member of the Board of Equalization and the Sleeping Lady Foundation. He and his wife, Valla, live in the Icicle Valley. They have one son and twin grandchildren.
