Barn Beach Reserve’s education program produces impressive results

Cascade School District’s 5thgraders have participated in three years of outdoor science education at the Barn Beach Reserve and they performed exceptionally well on the State’s “Measurement of Student Progress” test in science. Of the Cascade students taking the test 64.4% met or exceeded the state standard of progress. This is the highest percentage in the North Central Washington Educational Service District by 20 percentage points. Statewide, these students came in second by two percentage points. While Barn Beach can’t take full credit for this accomplishment—the teachers, parents and students must take the lion’s share—the Barn Beach education program is one of the factors that makes the Cascade School District different from the other districts throughout the State. The Icicle Fund supports Barn Beach with operating and capacity building support.
